Wa-7500m 7 500btu Portable Ac Manual Controls Review

I bought this unit to replace a window AC that is no longer allowed in our condo building. The primary purpose is to dehumidify our entire condo (only 850 square feet), so we are using this unit for a space larger than it is designed to cool. But, even so, it works well and it has a phenomenal Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 12.5, so you get 7500 BTU cooling for only 650 watts of power.

To respond to the previous review that rates this unit poorly, I'd like to go over the points that reviewer mentioned from my perspective...

1)drying the air - this unit will take the relative humidity in our condo down more than enough to make a muggy day comfortable indoors. If we turn the unit on early before the heat of the day, it will maintain the temp in our condo as it drys the air, not bad for a unit designed for a small room.

2)it must be drained of water - true, but most of the water it produces is evaporated over the heat exchanger and sent outside. A small amount of residual water is what you must empty and we find the unit will run for several days continuously before emptying is needed. A light indicates when the water tank is full. The drain is very low as the previous reviewer mentioned, so it is helpful to roll the unit to a stair-step so you have some clearance below it for the water to pour out. This is an inconvenience but unless you have trouble bending over, not a difficulty.

3)it has wheels that are small - yes, it may take effort to roll over a carpet (unit is 60 pounds) but no problem on hardwood floors.

4)hard to move, nothing to grip - haven't found this to be a problem. There are handles (one on each side) and anyone who is able to handle the weight should have no problem. No air conditioner is light and compared to wrestling with a window unit this model is a snap to move.

5)poor window exhaust seal - I don't understand this criticism. The unit comes with panels and a pre-cut hole for the exhaust hose. All fit together tightly to make a tight, rattle-free seal with no duct taping required. The panels allow a fit to any size double hung window.

The unit has two squirrel-cage fans, one for cool air, one for exhaust. The noise they produce is from rushing air, not motor noise so there is no annoying hum or buzz. There are only two fan speeds and they don't differ much. If I had my wish I'd want a slower speed available. The amount of air moved is great. I can sit in a chair twenty feet away from the unit in another room and feel the draft, so I use the unit as a fan when the cooling/dehumidifying isn't needed.

The exhaust hose will expand or contract to fit the length you need to reach the window from the back of the unit. There is a quick disconnect that snaps the hose into the unit, so you can quickly disconnect the hose if you need to move the unit for any reason. The hose screws into the plastic fittings at both ends so it won't pull apart on you.

The exhaust air to the outside is hot. As a result the hose will get warm. That warmth adds to room warmth and you don't want that heat in the room. I recommend wrapping some vinyl backed fiberglas insulation around the exhaust hose to keep the exhaust heat from the room you are cooling.

This unit has ONLY an exhaust hose. Without the intake hose of more expensive models, it must take room air and exhaust it outside. This means warm, humid air will be pulled into the room as a result. This lowers the cooling and dehumidifying efficiency but we haven't noticed this to be a problem.

Frigidaire FAH146Q2T 14-000 Btu Through The Wall A/c Review

PROS: Accurate Temperature Controls, Cools the Whole Apartment/Room, Energy Efficient, Quiet, Remote Temperature Sensing
CONS: None!
BEST USES: Cooling an Entire Apartment or Large Room

I purchased this Frigidaire unit to compare it against a comparable GE model (AJCQ12DC) that I also own. Why? Well, the GE unit is louder than it should be, due to a dubious design decision: the outside fan runs ALL the time, regardless of whether the compressor is active. The outside fan even runs when the air conditioner is operating in fan-only mode! In addition to excess noise, this design choice also increases the GE unit's power consumption.

In any case, I decided to purchase this Frigidaire unit to see if it is any better. And it is indeed! While the inside fan could be quieter (it is comparable to the GE's), the Frigidaire's outside fan only runs when the compressor is active. This (correct) design choice significantly reduces both noise and energy consumption. (Note that when the compressor and outside fan are operating, the overall noise level is comparable to the GE unit.)

In addition to reduced noise, the Frigidaire also has several features the GE unit does not.

First off, while this Frigidaire is primarily designed as a "through-the-wall" unit, it can also be installed in a window. This is thanks to a closed "slide-out chassis" design. (Since Frigidaire markets this product as a through-the-wall unit, the window installation kit must be purchased separately.) The option of window mounting significantly increases the versatility -- and long-term value -- of this air conditioner! (By comparison, GE's units utilize an open chassis, whereby the inner "guts" -- compressor, outside fan, etc. -- are exposed and freely accessible. As such, a GE unit can ONLY be installed in a wall sleeve.)

NOTE: Frigidaire designed this air conditioner to be a "universal" unit, to fit almost all other manufacturer's wall sleeves. (And the installation instructions provide instructions specific to each manufacturer's sleeve type.) GE wall sleeves are supported too, and I installed my Frigidaire in an existing GE sleeve, without any issues. (Well done, Frigidaire...)

Next, the Frigidaire has an "energy saver" setting. Said mode cycles the inside fan on for a two-minute period, every 10 minutes. This helps to circulate the air, as well as to help the unit accurately gauge the current room temperature. (If the temperature has increased beyond what you have set, the unit cools the room continuously until the set temperature is reached, at which point it shuts off and resumes the "energy saver" fan cycling.) The "energy saver" mode is the setting I use most of the time.

Third, the Frigidaire provides the option of an "automatic" speed control for the inside fan. In this mode, the unit increases the fan speed, when needed, for cooling (if the temperature difference is more than a few degress), then reduces the speed as the room temperature drops. I also use this setting, along with the "energy saver" mode.

And finally, the Frigidaire has a cutting-edge remote-temperature-sensing feature. Said feature provides a second temperature sensor in the included remote control. You can optionally enable remote temperature sensing, to compensate for difficult-to-cool areas. How it works: you enable remote-sensing via the remote control, and place the remote in your chosen part of the room. (Note that the remote must have a clear line-of-sight path to the air conditioner, so that the remote can communicate the temperature.) The remote then communicates the current temperature to the air conditioner at one-minute intervals. I use this feature as well, and it is outstanding!

The bottom line: while the aforementioned GE unit isn't bad, it cannot hold a candle to this Frigidaire. In addition to superior design/features, the Frigidaire also provides an additional 2,400 BTU of capacity. The only downside is a slight reduction in cooling efficiency (an EER of 9.0 compared to 9.5 for the GE), but the energy savings are likely negligible. Take into account the fact that the GE unit runs its outside fan all the time, and the Frigidaire will likely be cheaper in the long run.

Sharp CV-P10MX Portable Air Conditioner 9,500 BTU, White Review

I just purchased this Sharp CV-P10MX from Bed Bath and Beyond for [...]- 20% coupon + 8.25% tax - 5% bonus CASHBACK rebate for using my Discover card. Total net purchase price for me was about [...]. That's the best deal I could find and I didn't have to wait for shipping. I got the A/C unit today.

The unit is big. Look at the measurements carefully before purchasing. You need enough space right next to your window for this unit. Even though this is a portable unit with casters to move it around, the exhaust hose setup is more or less semi-permanent. Once installed it's not meant to be taken off very easily. So keep that in mind. Once you've installed it, you essentially can't use your window again to bring in fresh air--not without taking down the exhaust hose installation.

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE this portable unit quite a bit. I do solidly recommend purchasing this unit if you need a portable AC. For what it does, it does it well. The cooling performance is SOLID! Don't listen to other users with similar NON-Sharp units complaining about it not working or not bringing the temp down enough. They either have faulty units or didn't install the exhaust hose properly. These kind of AC units WORK and they work quite well for what they are designed to do. BUT there are shortcomings with these designs. For one, we have blinds AND curtains installed on our windows. With this portable AC installed on this set of windows, our blinds and curtains become essentially useless. Please keep that in mind. Also, it's a real pain to install the exhaust hosing contraption properly into your window frame and to make sure the insulation is properly insulated. It's not impossible but a real pain.

Another bad design about this particular SHARP unit is that there's no display on the AC unit itself. ONLY the remote has all the info/stats. So you can't tell what's going on with the unit just by looking at it. For example, you can't tell the current temp--or at least what the AC unit thinks is the current temp. You can only set the desired temp. on the remote unit. Additionally, you can't tell what setting the fan is currently running at just by looking at the unit. You have to go check your remote, and even then, you don't really know what the real fan speed is currently running at, only that you've set your remote to a certain setting. If you don't point the remote directly at the unit, it may show that you're running at high speed but really you're running at low or medium speed. It's a bad design pure and simple. The AC unit itself should have a display with all pertinent info AND it should have buttons to allow you to change the settings of the AC unit. As it stands, you can ONLY turn the unit on and off on the unit itself. Everything else is controlled by the remote. Make damn sure you don't lose your remote or else it essentially becomes useless to customization.

Another bad design is that the louvers ONLY automatically adjust UP and DOWN. For side to side adjustment, you have to MANUALLY adjust it by going to the unit itself and using your hands to adjust it. What this means is that you get auto action of up and down but not side to side. If your room is very small, it may suffice for just this up/down action, but if you have a bigger room, you're going to get frustrated with the lack of automatic side to side movement of the louvers. Again, bad design.

One of the biggest reason for getting the SHARP units is how quiet they are suppose to be in the lowest setting--supposedly 36 db--however that is just the sound of the fan operating by itself--meaning when the compressor isn't working to produce the actual COLD air. When the AC unit has kicked in with the compressor, the sound, even at the lowest setting, is not very quiet. It's definitely not something you can fall asleep to unless you get adjusted to the sound. Having said that, the Sharp will be the quietest of all the portable AC units out there. I've done ample research before purchasing this unit and this is by far the most quiet unit on the market today. So if you want the quietest machine, this is the unit to purchase but don't be fooled into thinking that it's truly quiet. It's NOT. It'll take some getting use to before one can go to sleep without ear plugs with this unit on. (I've been using ear plugs since my college dorm days to fall asleep so it doesn't bother me one bit but it will bother others initially I'm certain.)

All in all, I solidly like this unit and I believe it's one of the best out there. I am quite satisfied with this purchase. It will absolutely cool your room. If it doesn't, you've either installed it incorrectly or you have a faulty unit. If installed properly, it WILL work very well. But there are shortcomings--described above--to these portable AC units, by nature of their design, not isolated to SHARP units only. Realize these shortcomings before purchasing these kind of portable AC machines and you won't be very disappointed once you get it home and installed.

I know when the next heat wave comes this way, I'll be sitting happily in my bedroom surfing the net with a very "cool" smile and appreciating my Sharp CV-P10MX very much. :)

(I would give this machine 5 stars if they improved upon the user design. Otherwise very happy with the cooling performance of this Sharp CV-P10MX!)

I admit, I got suckered into buying this unit because of the marketing and slick featureset. What a disappointment.

I am returning it as quickly as possible, and would probably avoid Delonghi products going forward. I was trying to get information on where to buy replacement filters from Delonghi USA (& Canada), the former did not reply to several emails (USA tech support), and the latter - the Canadian support email bounced (no such mailbox). What a joke.

PROS:
Really nice & modern color scheme, graphite and silver.
Pretty blue LCD that displays everything you need to know.
Eco-friendly refrigerant
Side handles (because its very heavy)
3M Biosilver Techsystem

CONS:
VERY Noisy - sounds like an old dishwasher when cooling in Water to Air mode (swishing noise, I am guessing the rotary engine cooling off using the water).
Water refilling to get optimal cooling (to get 13K BTU) is annoying & frequent (Tested on a very hot day I had to refill it every 6 hours), I would bet that most people would give up on this eventually. Without the water, this unit does 9000 BTU in air cooling.
Huge - This thing is only portable due to the casters. Very bulky.
No Oscillating Louvers! The air is blown up in one direction, no choice.
No information on how (part#?) or where to buy the 3M filters that should be replaced once a year.
Heavy - Perhaps I'm being picky here, but this thing is so heavy (128 lbs).

What I recommend instead: The Sharp CVP10MX, as most people here (Amazon) have had a great experience with it. I recommend you have a look.

We've tried several different brands of filters and these ACE pleated air filters are the best we've tried so far. Some inferior filters are either a little too small and either fall out when being installed in ceiling intakes or make a bang sound each time the air handler comes on and sucks the filter to intake, or they're too big and you have to cram them in the opening. These filters fit PERFECTLY.Neither too small nor too big - just right. I assume they filter because they get dirty. :)

Amcor AMS090HR Review

I bought this product. The picture shows a brushed aluminum surface for the interior unit, and is the same for many other websites.When the delivery came to my house the product was ugly and white plastic.Not only that the model code was different, AWS090HR, and not AMS090HR.When you go to certain websites however, they specify that the actual product part numbers are all different, with one site stating that the AWS090HR unit was part of the same product code, but it is completely different from the advertised product pictured on the many sites including on Amazon.com.

Sopus Products/Medo OZS-1 Ozium 14.5 Oz. Air Sanitizer Review

I originally bought the Ozium spray made by Waterbury Company which was great. I decided to go with the Medo spray this time which can't compete. It doesn't seem to work as well - it only sprays about 1 foot in front of the nozzle, smells worse than the Waterbury version, and even the cap doesn't want to stay on the canister. It may actually be better intended for an automobile, but for the home, I'm going back to the Waterbury version.

Friedrich EL36L35A TwinTemp R Electric Heat: EL36L35A Review

This unit works great both for cooling and heating the space. Had to go with the window install since I live in an apartment, and while the installation was easy, I'm glad I don't have to move the thing twice a year. Unit runs relatively quietly in both heating and cooling modes. As a little bit of good advice, be mindful of how much you're loading on a single breaker... learned that lesson the hard way.

The concept and design of this product are terrific.Controls are easy to locate and use.The system worked great for three days, for a total of about 20 hours.On the fourth day it would not go on.

Attempts to arrange a replacement were simple.However, an attempt to change this to a refund proved futile.The company provided no response to my request, even though I stated their product was inadequate for my needs based on physical ailements requiring air conditioning.

Oregon Scientific Multi-Room Indoor-Climate Monitor w/Atomic Clock plus Weather Forecaster - RMR500A Review

We have an older home that had some mold issue we had to correct when we moved in.I have a weather stations and various temp/humidity sensors in the house but wanted a centralized unit that could display temp and humidty.The temp and humidty are very accurate (I used my high end Davis unit to compare data) from the base unit and remote sensors. I have been able to determine that having the bathroom exhaust fan for 10 min after a shower is inadequate.With this sensor, I know it needs to run for 20-30 minutes to bring the humidty below 60% again.Having this data was vital to prove to my wife that she needs to keep that fan on, which she hates doing otherwise.

I have had no issues with the display clarity and think there is adequate backlight when the button is depressed.

There are a few cons:

1) Unit lacks a max/min for temperature or humidity.I found this very surprising since Oregon Sc. has this on their other units that sell for much less.There's merit for keeping things simple but this was just being cheap on their part.

2) There is no trend indicator showing if temp & humidity are rising or falling.Again, this would have been very easy to program into the main display, but I'm getting picky.

3) Additional remote sensor prices are unreasonably inflated.This is just robbery.For the price of 2 additional sensors, you could buy a new unit with 2 remote sensors (unfortunetly, the outside doesn'ty let you change the transmission channel).

This item is truelly a piece of crap.

1.Their so called cooling pad (Made of bamboo pieces with a net over. This is more like early 20th century technology. What a piece of cheap crap) gets dirty and dusty and there isn't a way to clean it. There aren't any instructions (Their whole instuction booklet is a one page sheet) and I tried my best to clean it but didn't find a way. I unscrewed some screws trying to take a part out to clean it but decided to put them back after about 10 screws. Looked as you have to take the whole thing apart but I didn't take a chance doing it knowing how bad a product this is and it may never work again

2.It gives a bad odor after a little use.

3.The wheels keep falling off every time you try to move it.

4.The chord is very short and you'll definitely need extensions to reach the outlet.(Huge piece of crap with very short chord. Chord can barely reach the floor.What a joke)

5.The water level gauge is inaccurate and very easy to over fill it with water spilling onto your floor.

I don't know if there are any comparable products in the market but I strongly suggest you do search for one and I am (1000% sure) anything will be better than this made in India crap.

Friedrich KM18L30 QuietMaster R : KM18L30 Review

I just purchased my second Quietmaster and am very happy it. This machine is very strong and quiet. I have a large room with a hall on the side that leads to a kitchen and bathroom. It is very good at pushing the cold air all the way to the far end of this maze. This is made in Mexico and seems to be better constructed than the units I seen from China. The only down side is that it is expensive, especially since it does not come with a remote, however this is a first class machine. I tried the Friedrich CP18N30 prior to this and was not as impressed.

I've owned at least 3 of these covers. The first two I bought from Home Depot, and this is the third. All 3 seem to be exactly the same and they didn't last past two seasons. The elastic that comes with it, loses it's elasticity after one season and then it gets blown off with the wind, even after using extra rope

Danby DPAC120061 12,000 BTU 3-in-1 Portable Comfort System Review

I've owned one of the Danby 12,000 BTU air conditioners (model DPAC 12030) for two years now. A unit of this size struggles to cool a 400 sq.ft. room a few degrees (with 30ºC outside, window curtains drawn). I find the best way to use it is to have the air blowing directly toward me.

My main complaints about the unit are:

* After a few months of use the small LED display, which is needed to operate the unit, slowly went dim to the point of not being able to read it. After many phone calls to Danby I was finally able to get the display replaced under warranty by a local electronics service company. But a few months later the display went dim again - as though Danby hadn't bothered to upgrade this obviously faulty component. To their credit, Danby agreed to replace the display one more time out of warranty.

* The air coming out of the unit had a strange smell of oil for the first season. The service company said that sometimes the compressor leaks oil and it was probably the smell of the oil burning off of the compressor housing.

* The unit is not real quiet. For the first year there was a rattling noise that occurred when the compressor kicked in, but this noise seems to have gone now.

Friedrich C-90B Air Cleaner Review

I bought this pricey air purifier because it received the highest rating in a Consumer Reports field test. It may be expensive to purchase, but it's worth it. This model works by drawing air through a series of filters using a powerful 3-speed fan. A prefilter removes large particles/hairs, then an ionization chamber clumps the smaller particles, allowing them to be easily removed by the final stage carbon filter. This combination seems particularly effectively at removing dust, cat dander, pollen, and other odors. It also greatly reduces the odor of cigarette smoke that wafts into my apartment from a chain-smoking neighbor downstairs. The filter also proved effective at removing the odor of cat urine/feces near a litterbox.

Like all air purifiers, the big downside of using one is the energy cost and the cost of replacing the filters. Surprisingly, this unit users much less electricity than cheaper models and costs less to maintain since the filters are washable. Only the carbon filter needs to be changed every 3-6 months since it slowly loses its ability to absorb odor.

The ionization produced by the unit leaves a slight but noticable ozone smell when the unit is running. This may be irritating to some, but it actually smells pleasant to my wife and I since we know that the unit is working. The smell disappears in an hour or less after the unit's been turned off, even if it's been left on for a night.

I would highly recommend this air purifier. Since an air purifier needs to run almost constantly while one is home if "fresh" air is also coming in through an A/C or fan, it's important to pay more attention to the maintenance/electricity costs than the initial sticker shock.

- filters are washable
- the included remote gives you controls even in bed
- the 30 min interval timer feature is great specially when it gets too cold at night

cons:
- the ionizer feature is more of a display light than anything
- needs a weekly maintenance. water mineral builds up at the bottom, if you let it sit for more than a week, taking it out posts a problem.
- if you even find the time to actually clean the insides of the fan and and take out the dusts and water deposits, it would take a lot of patients since the machine wasn't designed for easy disassemble. (you'll need a thin long screw driver to take out some of the screws.)

bottom line:
machine is great as an alternative humidifier and room fan.It is a high maintenance machine make sure you clean it every week or two.

Update 11-28-08: I've had this for 2 summers now & it still works like new...

.....pros.....
+...It works great for my medium-sized apartment, keeping it cool.
+...It's reasonably quiet on low fan speed; at least quieter than my last air conditioner. (An inexpensive G.E. model)
+...Sleek, modern design with good looks, electronic keypad, temp sensor & remote control.
+...Multiple settings, with 3 fan speeds (high; med; low) for each: "Fan"; "Cool"; "Energy Saver"; and "Dehumidifier".
+...Great price! (At least at the time I bought it) :)

.....cons.....
-...Installation instructions are a little weak- it's best to have experienced help- drilling involved.
-...The included side flaps have a number of air gaps. I recommend white duct tape for extra sealing.
-...It advertises "Whisper Quiet" on the box- seems like a bit of marketing exaggeration, in my opinion.
-...Temperature sensor seems to be a bit off at times.
-..."Energy Saver" seems tricky- instructions say it'll shut off for 3 minutes periodically- mine seems to shut off for good.

In spite of these issues, I'm giving this 5 stars- I'm exceedingly happy with it! We get a number of searingly hot 100+ degree summer days with humidity here in Chicago, and my apartment is keeping cool to say the least. I even have to switch to fan sometimes to keep it from getting too cold; it's really that effective. 5 Stars!

P.S. This review is for White 10,000 BTU Window A/C by Haier- Amazon ASIN B000CSXTF8. About the temp setting on the keypad: This setting controls when the cold air kicks in. If the temp setting is too high, the cold air will never turn on. If you set it to around 75 degrees or lower, that will indicate that when temperatures rise higher than that, the air conditioner will start the cooling process. Setting it at 70 degrees will likely have the cold air blasting all the time, even to the point of the whole thing freezing over. This temp setting can be adjusted by using the up & down keys. Keep hitting the down key until the cold air kicks in.

Friedrich KS15L10 QuietMaster R : KS15L10 Review

this is your unit! I like it like a meat locker in my bedroom, and this unit does the trick. I had intially bought a Kenmore 12,000 BTU based on Consumer Reports and found that it blew cool air, and was quiet, but I wanted cold, icy-like air. I live in South Texas as well and have been suffering the worst heat wave and drought in history. This unit allows me to leave my house set at 79 at night, but be curled up under the covers in a very cold room at night. If I were to leave it on it would probably cool into the hall and my den. For anyone worried about noise, it runs very quietly, although I do like a little background "white noise" at night. My only other advice would be to shop around for prices...I got mine for just under $600.00.

12 Volt Portable Air Conditioner Review

My experience with this unit is as follows: Purchased this unit and an Igloo cooler. Filled the ice chest approximately 3/4-full with ice. Placed in a pickup truck cab (Ford F-250 SuperDuty with SuperCab) that was pre-cooled with the air conditioner for ~30 minutes on an 80 degree day. Parked the truck in the shade and connected the unit to the aux power source in the cab. Allowed the unit 30 minutes run time. At the end of that time the temperature in the cab was equal to outside ambient conditions. There was no cooling, nor maintaining temperature inside the cab. Granted I opened the door to exit the truck, but the unit was unable to provide ANY appreciable cooling to the truck interior in 30 minutes. I've since returned the unit. I recommend you not buy this item. I can provide no insight as to why the unit worked for "Geri and Family," but potentially a very limited amount of positive feedback (1 review in this cases) can be placed by the manufacturer or proxy.

Goldstar WG8005R 8,000 BTU Room Air Conditioner, Slide-Out Chassis Review

I purchased this air conditioner for $180.00 new. I used it three times and it just stopped working. There isa circuit breaker on the end of the power supply cord of this unit. It must provide some sort of voltage drop that the unit senses. Anyway, the breaker on the cord didn't just kick, it died. Hence, the unit ceased to function at all. I contacted several part suppliers and the lowest price I found on a replacement cord was $59.00. For that amount I could almost buy a new yet smaller A.C. unit. The price is high, the quality is at the very best, POOR, the parts are outrageous if you can find them, and I will NEVER own another goldstar product. Take my advice and go for a G.E. product.

Friedrich XQ08l10A AC 8000 BTU 115V 10.8 SLIDEOUT Review

This thing really throws out the cold air. I measured the air temperature at 26 deg. coming out of the vent. Most other AC's I've had are around 38-40 deg. I really like the programmable features as I have it set to go on about an hour or 2 before I go to bed so my room is nice and cool, and it goes off in the middle of the night. The low fan speed is also very low which makes it quieter. I've noticed on a lot of other units the low speed is not that low, so you get more fan noise. Also the compressor seems relatively quiet, not sure if it's any quieter than other units, but I don't have a problem sleeping with this on, and I'm sensitive to noise when I sleep.

On the negative side, when the compressor first comes on it's a little noisier for a couple minutes then quiets down. So if it's cycling on and off very much, it can be irritating, probably not too noticeable though if it's not in a bedroom.Also the thermostat goes down to 60 deg, but it won't get the room that cold, it usually starts cycling on and off at about 67-68, but it still can get the room down to 64-65 deg.

It's a solid AC, seems like it shouldn't have the negatives I mentioned for the price of the unit, but it still throws out a lot of very cold air, so it could be worth it.

Soleus Air PH4-12R-01 Portable Air Conditioner and Heater Review

I actually got mine at Home Depot too.The model I bought was the PH4-13R-01.It has 13000 Btu cooling power and 12000 Btu heat pump.It looks identical to this one pictured at Amazon.I saved a hundred dollars by signing up for a HD credit card - so it made the decision to buy somewhat easier.

Good:

Cools well, mine is rated at 550sf, but I am actually trying to cool a much larger area.Good for a large living room or family room with kitchen adjacent.It is possible to super cool the area if necessary.

Control layout is easy to understand and change settings.

3 fan speeds, allows good control of air speed.

The heat pump is a big deal, I can't wait to try it out.Heat pumps are basically air conditioning cycle in reverse - it's supposed to be way more efficient than a typical furnace.

Bad:

Oscillation (sp?) is only up and down, not side to side.Makes air distribution poor to corners of room.

Uses lots of power, I think 1300 watts - but still better than my central air.You can save some electricity by setting the thermostat a bit higher - the compressor will turn on/off as needed to maintain that temp.

12000 Btu Ductless Split Air Conditioner Review

I recently purchased this unit and had it installed.The installation went OK but the instructions that come with the system are real vague and the English translation is a bit rough.The system is flimsy and cheaply made of plastic.When I opened the cover to the filters one of the hinges was broken.After installing, the fan on the indoor unit ran at one speed and that was very slow.I called Amcor product support and seems they have only one guy, Don, who supports the split system products.He is knowledgeable but I got the runaround and some goofy answers on my first two calls.On the third call I finally nailed him down and he said he believed it was a loose set screw on the impeller and I would have to get a technician out to take the unit apart and tighten the set screw.I was not about to pay for a technician to repair my brand new system.Unfortunately, if he had sent a new indoor unit I would have also had to pay for the re-installation.Amcor was not willing to pay for any of this.I finally talked Don into walking me through the disassembly and I tightened the set screw.Everything worked fine after this.This is more trouble than I should have to go through for a new system.I would not recommend anyone buy this brand.

SPT SF-609 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer Review

To be fair, the product does not claim to be an air conditioner. However, it does claim to cool 12 degrees cooler, which I didn't find at all. I live in a dry Colorado climate, and still it is barely cooler than a fan. You have to fill it with tons of ice to even get that, and it requires refilling with water and ice often. If you don't clean it at least once a week, it starts smelling really bad.

All this effort of refilling and cleaning is not worth the 3 to 5 degrees cooler you get. For that, I'd rather just plug in a fan and not have to worry about it every day. Save your money and buy a portable air conditioner. It's worth the extra investment, trust me.
